Publication expected by the end of 2014.
A remarkable story of urban decay, Buffalo NY was once the eight largest city in the United States and led the country in many industrial and technological developments. A century later and it has lost half of its peak population and is at the bottom of the major metro list in the US. Known now as a rust belt city inundated with unwanted snow, the decline of Buffalo is an amazing artistic and economic story – a story of profound loss worthy of being a major lesson in what can go wrong. Inspired by the hometown of the Institute’s Executive Director, “Post Apocalyptic Nightmare: How One of the Nations’ Once Greatest Cities Was Almost Forgotten” will be a mix or art and science: photo documentation of urban decay along with economic analysis of metropolitan failure.
